Biography

James Gallagher is an American filmmaker and photographer. His documentary feature Songs About Fucking (2023) follows musician Marc Rebillet during the first sold out tour in North America after the pandemic. Since there was no room for additional crew members on the bus, Gallagher served as director, cinematographer, and sound mixer for the fifty three day shoot.

The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. As writer-director, his short film Love (2019), a father-and-son story set in the world of junior tennis starring Susan Sarandon, Will Hochman, and Boris McGiver, was a Vimeo Staff Pick, recommended by The Guardian, and Short of the Week, as was his documentary Paulette (2021), which premiered in competition at the Big Sky Documentary Festival. His comedy New Partner (2014) won Best Comedy at the New York Television Festival. Gallagher has also directed branded work for Ray-Ban, Volvo, Vox, and VICE, and his photography has appeared in The New York Times, The New Yorker, Vogue, and The Times of London.
